Most of our vehicle mount work goes into patrol SUVs and trucks: Ford PIUs, Tahoe PPVs, full-size pickups. This one went somewhere harder: an IAG Sentinel, a purpose-built armored response vehicle running in agency service.
An APC is the most hostile cab a mount can live in, and the most revealing test of how a mount company actually works. Here's the build.
Why an Armored Cab Breaks Universal Mounts
Everything a universal mount assumes about a vehicle is wrong inside an APC:
- You do not drill armor. In a normal fleet vehicle, drilling is a warranty and resale problem. In an armored vehicle it's a ballistic one. Every hole you put through plate or trim compromises a cab that was engineered to stop rifle fire. No-drill isn't a preference here; it's the requirement.
- Nothing is standard. Armored vehicles are low-volume, hand-finished builds. Console layouts, seat bases, radio stacks, and interior panels vary between vehicles that came off the same line. A mount built from a fitment chart has no chart to read.
- The cab is already full. Radios, screens, camera monitors, gun ports, gear. The mount has to put the rifle in reach without blocking any of it, in a cab with less spare room than a sedan.
- The mission is the whole point. An armored vehicle exists for the calls where the rifle is coming out. A long gun locked in back, behind the crew compartment, defeats the reason the truck was bought.
The Sentinel Build
The IAG Sentinel is a purpose-built armored response vehicle: armored crew cab, roof turret, rescue configuration. The agency running this one wanted the same thing every patrol unit wants, scaled up: a rifle locked, staged at the seat, and deployable by one hand on the way out the door.
The StandA.R.D. went in the way every StandA.R.D. goes in. We built to the platform: photos, dimensions, and the rifle spec came first, then the mount was configured for that cab. It anchors to existing hardware points, so no holes went through armor, trim, or anything else. The rifle rides a full duty setup, optic, light, and laser mounted, held in the cradle at the angle the seat actually allows.
What This Means for Your Platform
The Sentinel install is the same process we run for a Durango Pursuit or a K9 Tahoe, applied to a harder cab. If your fleet includes a BearCat, a Sentinel, an MRAP-pattern vehicle, or anything else without a catalog page, the build sheet works the same way: tell us the vehicle, send photos and dimensions, tell us the rifle and the side. We configure the mount to that cab and ship it with the same 24-month warranty as every other unit.
Quote turnaround runs a little longer on custom armor than on a pre-engineered platform like a PIU. The four-bar procurement filter still applies: no-drill, in reach, fits the actual vehicle, survives the duty cycle. An APC just raises the bar on all four.
If the hardest cab in the fleet can run one, the Tahoes have no excuse.
